Enjoy a late summer’s evening of music and magic as you travel through the history of Spain’s magnificent heritage of traditional song. Soprano Melissa Montoya‘s tessitura easily falls into dramatic mezzo territory. She has sung Larina in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Mistress of Novices in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Praskovia in Lehar’s Merry Widow, and other roles. Ronaldo Baca, a master of the classical guitarist who studied in Andalucia, the birthplace of Spanish flamenco, will accompany on a variety of instruments to include the Arabic oud, an early ancestor of the European lute. A musical delight for adults, the program is also an ideal music literacy experience for young adults with its brief explanations on the history and origins of the works performed.
